6 Summer Pupsicle Recipes to Help Cool Down Fido

Happy Summer everyone!

The temperatures have been climbing here in New England, and keeping cool is everyone’s number one priority – including our pets’. What better way to do this than with pupsicles! Take your pup’s favorite ingredients, blend them together, pour them into a popsicle mold (like this set we found on Amazon.com) and freeze.

Today, we’re bringing you six, count them six, pupsicle treats to help keep your pets cool and comfortable, no matter how hot it gets. Each of these recipes has been created knowing that our canine and feline readers have different dietary needs. These recipes are super simple and can be modified to fit the need of any pet. Let’s dive into it!

Get out your blue suede shoes for this one. This peanut butter and banana pupsicle is a pet-friendly take on Elvis’s favorite sandwich. Creamy peanut butter, fresh banana, and goat milk yogurt make this a tasty (and healthy!) way to keep cool on a hot day.

Ingredients:

  1. 4 ounces Steve’s Real Food Raw Frozen Goat Milk Yogurt
  2. 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  3. ½ of a banana
  4. 1 Happy Howie’s Beef Woof Stick

Directions:

  1. Thaw yogurt according to package directions.
  2. In a blender, blend the yogurt and banana until smooth.
  3. Add peanut butter, and blend. If the mixture is too thick to pour, add a little bit of water to thin it out.
  4. Pour into the popsicle mold until it is about ¾ full.
  5. Place the Beef Woof Stick in the mold as the popsicle stick.
  6. Repeat for as many popsicles as you want to make.
  7. Freeze for at least 4 hours.
  8. Remove from the mold, and serve!

And to really bring home the Elvis influence, add a couple of pieces of Bacon & Cheese Strips to the mix prior to freezing. (Don’t use real bacon, no matter how much they beg. The high fat and salt content are not healthy for your pup.)

Note: When choosing a peanut butter to use for this recipe, please make sure to use one without Xylitol. It is a sugar substitute that is found in sugar free products such as chewing gum and toothpaste, but is becoming more common in other products, such as peanut butter. While it is perfectly safe for humans, it can be deadly to dogs. Also keep an eye on the sugar content, as too much sugar can be bad as well. So please, read your labels carefully.

Pumpkin pie, but for your pup! Organic pumpkin and goat milk yogurt blend together in a creamy, high fiber treat that will keep your pet cool while helping with digestion. And hidden in the middle, your pup will find another tasty treat: pumpkin/mango dog treats. It’s perfect for keeping your dog engaged in his snack until the very last lick.

Ingredients:

  1. 4 ounces Steve’s Real Food Raw Frozen Goat Milk Yogurt

  3. 3-4 Fruitables Skinny Minis Pumpkin & Mango Flavor
  4. 1 Happy Howie’s Beef Woof Stick

Directions:

  1. Thaw yogurt according to package directions.
  2. In a blender, blend the yogurt and pumpkin until smooth. If the mixture is too thick to pour, add a little bit of water to thin it out.
  3. Pour into the popsicle mold until it is about ¾ full.
  4. Drop 3-4 of the pumpkin/mango treats into the mold.
  5. Use the Beef Woof Stick to push the treats down into the mixture, making sure they are as evenly spaced as possible.
  6. Place the Beef Woof Stick in the mold as the popsicle stick.
  7. Repeat for as many popsicles as you want to make.
  8. Freeze for at least 4 hours.
  9. Remove from the mold and serve!

This is another fall treat cooled down for summer time. Fresh apples, high fiber oatmeal, and goat milk yogurt all blend together in a tasty treat.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 apple, diced, no seeds (any apple will be fine, we used the Pink Lady variety)
  2. ½ cup uncooked oatmeal
  3. 4 ounces Steve’s Real Food Raw Frozen Goat Milk Yogurt
  4. 1 Happy Howie’s Beef Woof Stick

Directions:

  1. Thaw yogurt according to package directions.
  2. In the blender, break down the apple pieces with the pulse setting until you have a fine mash.
  3. Add the oatmeal, and blend.
  4. Add the yogurt and blend. If the mixture is too thick to pour, add a little bit of water to thin it out.
  5. Pour into the popsicle mold until it is about ¾ full.
  6. Place the Beef Woof Stick in the mold as the popsicle stick.
  7. Repeat for as many popsicles as you want to make.
  8. Freeze for at least 4 hours.
  9. Remove from the mold and serve!

When cutting up the apple, please make sure that no seeds make it into the pupsicle. Apple seeds contain cyanide which can build up in your dog’s system over time and cause severe health problems.
