Over the years, saddle pads had been low on my radar – up until my horse began having issues with back discomfort. Recently however, the Back on Track All Purpose Saddle Pad has done amazing things for my horse.
According to the manufacturer, Back on Track products are infused with a fine ceramic powder, which softly reflects the horse’s body heat back to them in the form of infrared heat. This does wonders for horses with back soreness and topline issues! When a horse is wearing this pad, it takes the escaping body heat, typically released at the topline and spine, and recirculates that heat back into those muscles. This increases the flow of blood to this area, allowing the back muscles to stay loose while riding and training, which prevents extra strain on the muscles and joints in this sensitive area.
When I started riding my horse in this saddle pad, the results spoke for themselves. He was able to settle into his work more quickly and began to stretch over his back earlier in our ride. During our under saddle work, I found him to be more supple, which allowed him to focus more on the work at hand.
The results continued beyond working under saddle, with my horse exhibiting less back pain after my ride as well. Over weeks and months of using this pad, the results compounded. So much of his back stiffness and pain while being ridden subsided.
One thing to keep in mind is that all of the Back on Track products have a break-in period, since horses need to be introduced to the effects slowly, and worked up to more regular use. According to the Back on Track packaging, it can take 10-20 days of consistent use before you are able to observe the benefits in your horse.
Now I make sure that I use this Back on Track saddle pad whenever I ride. It’s a bit of an investment, however it is completely worth it. It has done wonders for my horse that battles back soreness and topline stiffness. I highly recommend it!
