High Wither Saddles

Equestrians with horses with high withers, also referred to as “shark fin” withers, often have a difficult time when it comes to saddle fit. If the saddle does not properly accommodate your horse’s conformation, it can cause painful saddle rubs and prevent your horse from moving properly. At The Cheshire Horse, we carry a number of saddles that were specifically designed to fit horses with high, narrow withers. 

Some horse breeds, such as Thoroughbreds, are predisposed to having high withers. This shape back requires a saddle that allows adequate clearance for the withers. We have dressage saddles, close contact saddles, and all-purpose saddles from trusted equestrian brands, including Arena Saddles to fit high-withered horses. Many of these saddles also feature adjustable gullets, so you can modify the fit of the saddle as your horse’s back naturally changes due to age or exercise level.
