Many equestrians utilize nosebands and training cavessons when schooling their Western horses. Western nosebands teach your horse how to properly carry the bit and his jaw, while preventing horses from opening or gaping their mouth to evade contact with the bit.

We carry Western training nosebands from a number of your favorite equestrian brands such as Lami-Cell, Schutz Brothers, and Weaver Leather. Our selection of Western training tack includes rope nosebands, leather nosebands, and leather nosebands with rawhide covered rope cavessons. Generally, leather cavessons are considered gentler than their rope counterparts, with the leather/rope hybrid nosebands falling between the two. Typically, the stiffer and the thinner the noseband material is, the more harsh the effects are.

When adjusting a noseband, it should lie two fingers below your horse's cheekbone. The cavesson should be snug, but loose enough that you can slide two fingers between the noseband and the flat, bony portion of the top of your horse's nose.

The majority of the Western cavessons that we carry are equipped with a ring that allows you to clip a tie down or lunge line to them.

Consider adding a Western training cavesson to your horse's schooling program to see how it can improve the communication between you and your horse.
