The right set of Western reins allows you to softly communicate with your horse. We carry an extensive selection of leather reins, natural fiber reins, and synthetic reins for the Western rider in a variety of styles and lengths.

The type of reins that you choose will depend on your personal tastes as well as the bit you ride in and your chosen Western discipline.

Split reins are considered by many equestrians to be classic Western reins. Each separate rein attaches to the bit and the reins are held in one hand for a curb bit, or by two hands for a snaffle bit. We carry leather split reins and synthetic split reins in 1/ 2", 3/4", 5/8", and 1" widths from trusted Western tack brands including Billy Cook Saddlery, Professional's Choice, Tucker Saddlery, PHS Saddlery, and Schutz Brothers.

Romal reins are frequently seen in Western pleasure classes, because they create a beautiful drape that showcases your partnership while dazzling the judge. Romals are a continuous rein with the addition of a quirt, which is held in the rider's opposite hand. Traditionally, romal reins are only used with Western curb bits.

Barrel reins (also referred to as gaming reins or roper reins) are a single continuous rein that clip to your bit on each side. They are popular for both speed events and pleasure riding because they are easy to hold and prevent you from dropping the reins. We carry synthetic barrel reins, rope barrel reins, and leather barrel reins from Weaver Leather, Triple E Manufacturing, Zilco, and Tory Leather. Some the reins even have integrated rubber grips for additional control.

Mecate reins are traditionally used with a bosal. They are designed to be soft and supple, making them easy and comfortable to hold. Our inventory includes synthetic mecates, horse hair mecates, and mecate sets, as well as slobber straps, which are used to attach your mecate to your bosal.
