Tail Extensions

Give your horse the appearance of a long, full, and luxurious tail with the assistance of a tail extension. Popular among working hunter, western pleasure, and equitation divisions, high quality tail extensions make sure that your horse is looking show ready from head to tail.

We carry Trophy Tail Tail Extensions from Tail Tamer in a variety of colors. These tails are made from 100% horse hair, which is collected only from live horses. This ensures that your horse will look completely natural while wearing their glossy, healthy, vibrant tail extension.

Tail extensions come in two different sizes, half pound and one pound. A one pound tail will provide an extremely full look, while the half pound tails help to fill out a thinner tail for a natural look. The tails are often longer than many horses need, with the one pound tail coming standard at 38 inches long and half pound tails measuring 37 inches long, which allows you to trim the tail to the precise length that you need.

All of our tail extensions feature a double loop (hair loop and cotton rope loop) which makes them legal for American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) competitions.

Caring for a tail investment is similar to caring for your horse’s real tail. Keep the tail clean, and use a quality equine conditioner to nourish the tail hairs. Brush or pick the tail hairs, then make sure that the tail is completely dry before storing it for your next competition.

Protect your investment with a tail extension bag. These bags, such as the Intrepid International Tail Extension Bag, are perfect for storage when the tail is not in use, as well as travelling to and from competitions.

Put the polish on your show ring turnout with a quality tail extension. If you have questions about the tail extensions that we carry or need to special order a tail to match your horse’s coloring, we invite you to reach out to our friendly and experienced sales associates.

Please note: Tail extensions are legal in many breeds and disciplines, however, they are prohibited in several breeds such as Arabians and Morgans. We encourage you to consult your association’s rulebook if you have any questions about the legality of any tack or equipment.
