For horses with sensitive mouths, rubber mouth bits can be a popular option. They allow you to communicate with your horse without overwhelming them, or worse yet, hurting the delicate bars of their mouth.

At The Cheshire Horse, we carry a wide selection of rubber mouth bits from quality manufacturers like Happy Mouth, Korsteel, and Shires. Available in a variety of cheekpieces, rubber bits can utilize leverage (as in the case of the Hard Rubber Mullen Mouth Pelham and the Korsteel Soft Rubber Mullen Mouth Pelham) or can work primarily on the bars of the mouth (like the Korsteel Rubber Mouth Dee Snaffle Bit or the Jointed Ribbed Pro King Dee Snaffle Bit).

Rubber bits are also a wonderful option when first beginning to introduce a young horse to working under saddle. Many of our customers start green horses with the Solid Rubber Mouth Loose Ring Snaffle Bit, which is sometimes affectionately referred to as a "dogbone bit." This soft bit allows a horse or pony to become accustomed to wearing a bit while not damaging the soft tissues of the lips and mouth.

For dressage riders and eventers, we have a number of rubber bits that are legal in the dressage ring. Be sure to refer to the United States Dressage Federation or the United States Eventing Association rulebook before purchasing any bit intended for competition.

Every horse is an individual and needs to be treated as such. Selecting the right bit can be a difficult process. Consult with our experienced sales staff to see which rubber bit may be the proper pick for your horse.
