Paste Dewormers

Regular deworming is an essential part of keeping your horse healthy and thriving. Previously rotational deworming was an accepted schedule, however new evidence has shown that this may encourage parasitic resistance to common dewormers. Currently, using Fecal Egg Counts (FECs) is the preferred method of deworming. In a FEC, the amount of parasite eggs is totalled, allowing you to get a clear picture of the parasite worm activity in your horse’s digestive tract.

We carry a large variety of deworming pastes from trusted equine pharmaceutical companies such as Bimeda, Durvet, Farnam, Merial, and Zoetis to help you combat internal parasites. To treat small strongyles, moxidectin (Quest Gel Horse Dewormer) and fenbendazole (Panacur PowerPac) are recommended. When looking to manage tapeworms, dewormers containing praziquantel (Zimecterin Gold Paste Dewormer) have proven to be effective. Products with an active ingredient of Ivermectin (Durvet Apple Flavored Ivermectin Paste) continue to be a popular option among horses that have consistently high Fecal Egg Count numbers.

We recommend that you work with your veterinarian to develop a deworming program that is appropriate for your horse and situation. For sensitive horses and horses in difficult environments, we also carry pellet dewormers and daily deworming products.
