Mixing Directions

A cup is enclosed in each bag of milk replacer. Each cup holds approximately 4 ounces of dry milk replacer powder. Mix one cup of Sav-A-Lam Milk Replacer with one pint of water. Sprinkle milk replacer on top of warm water and mix well. For larger quantities, mix one pound of milk replacer with 4 pounds (1/2 gallon) of water.

Feeding Directions

1. Provide the lamb with at least one feeding of colostrum within its first 12 hours of life.
2. Feed the milk cold to the lamb if fed through a lamb nursing device. Cold milk will reduce chances of overeating. Allow free access to all the cold milk the lamb will consume in this manner.
3. Bottle feed (12 hours to 3 days): Offer milk warm at 100°F. feed 2 to 4 oz. of Sav-A-Lam milk replacer liquid every 4 to 6 hours, gradually reducing the number of feedings, while increasing the amount fed. After 3 days: 8 to 12 oz. milk replacer liquid fed every 6 to 8 hours is usually sufficient. Feeding levels may be varied to the lamb’s appetite. Overfeeding can cause scours or bloat.
4. Breed, size of lambs and general health conditions of lambs can affect appetite and growth. The quantity and/or percent solids may be varied to maintain rate of gain and stool consistency.
5. If scouring occurs, cut back on feeding until it stops. Lambs that have not received at least on feeding of colostrum milk may scour easily.
6. Weak lambs nursing from the ewe may be fed supplemental milk replacer.
7. Provide a high quality lamb creep after the lamb is one week old.
8. Lambs may be weaned at 30 days of age or at a minimum of 30 pounds.
