E. A. Mattes GOLD pads are made from the same design and high quality materials as the sheepskin pads. Instead of full sheepskin panels, the GOLD pads are made with high loft, dense, 11/4” long wool on a fabric backing. The front and rear trim are sheepskin which allows the GOLD collection to enjoy all the colors of the Couture Collection.
- Underside: Dense, soft wool panels (1 1/4" thick) woven to a fabric backing.
- Trim: Sheepskin trim on the front and rear.
- Design: Same high-quality design as the sheepskin pads.
- Use: Absorb energy and bounce for extra comfort.
Measurements:
- Medium – 21.25" spine, 21" drop (16.5-17" saddles)
- Large – 23" spine, 22" drop (17.5-18" saddles)

I have purchased many Mattes pads over the years and have always been satisfied with the quality. This one, however, is nothing like the other Mattes pads I have purchased. If you are purchasing this pad, please be aware that it is NOT sheepskin panels as the ad says. Instead they are woven synthetic panels with a wool/synthetic fleece combo. I think it is only 20% wool. Fleece is nowhere near as dense as a standard pad, and when brushed with a wire brush like you would with any other Mattes pad the fibers come out easily making me think that this pad will not last long at all. I have not washed it yet, as I have only used it 5 times. I plan on contacting Mattes about this and requesting a refund/exchange for another pad with the standard sheepskin backing. I am very sad as I purchased this as it was the only black version of a 'sheepskin backed' pad from Mattes that I could find.
