These nets are suitable for hay or haylage. Fine mesh holes ensure hay lasts longer and there is less wastage on the stable floor.

Mesh size: 5cm (2"). Small: 30" (76cm) long, capacity: 4kg, Medium: 40" (102cm) long, capacity: 6.5kg, Large: 50" (127cm) long, capacity: 9.5kg.

Mesh size can be +/- 0.5cm. Capacities are approximate and given only as a guide to the differences between haynet size. These nets help hay last longer; prevent waste, and slow feeding.

Very well made, durable hay net. Works great to help cut the amount of hay thrown around by rambunctious horses :) .

I'm so glad I purchased the Shires slow feed hay nets! My horse and donkey have never eaten out of anything than their big open buckets. I hung 2 on the fence in the paddock and let them out of the stalls . It was funny as all get up... My horse Shiloh was afraid of them and started throwing her head back and trotting around and then of course Elmo (the donkey) monkey see monkey do. After about 4-5 minutes Shiloh decided to check out the smell in the bag and started nibbling away & Elmo followed suit. They have adjusted very well to the slow eating idea...and so have I. It saves time and no more extreme waste of hay!

I just purchased 2 more of these bags. 2 years ago I had purchased 2 and am still using them. They are very durable and a good price.

Shires are the only slow feed hay nets I'll use because they hold up the best. It's important to ""train"" your horses properly before switching to slow feed hay nets (by feeding however you always have, but also hanging these hay nets for the horses to ""explore,"" making sure there is always one more net than the number of horses. After a few/several days, the horses will ignore the loose hay you've put out, and only eat from the hay nets. Now, and only now, can you stop feeding however you used to, and start only providing hay in slow feed hay nets.) People who say the horse immediately destroyed the net, likely haven't ""trained"" the horse, or haven't hung the net securely. Sure, if they walk around on it, kick it in the dirt and over the ground, it'll wear out. They'll also get thru the hay a lot faster than if it is hung so that it can swing freely, and the horse has to hold it in place or learn to grab hay (like grazing) while it's swinging. Good luck and enjoy these wonderful slow feed hay nets.

I've been using small hole hay nets since 2008. I've tried several different brands and have found the Shire's to be the most durable they're available with different hole sizes (1"" and 2""), and different net sizes (large horse, regular horse, and pony/mini). The 2"" size come in a lot of colors, making it easy to have a certain color for each animal--my mini donks use green, my hinny mule uses purple, and my llama uses pink.--makes feeding really easy if you weigh your hay and everyone gets a different amount. I absolutely love these nets!

I have several of these hay bags and some have been in constant use (daily) for over two years and they are still going strong. The small holes have helped greatly to slow down how fast the horses eat their hay and has really helped reduce waste. I also use these hay nets for Nubian goats. The horse size bags will hold approximately half a bale of hay (average 60 lb bale).
